I am on latest available firmware which already quite old now. 

Tether was working perfectly for many years now with this router but with the latest app update, app refuses to be compatible with this router. Please fix this.

Welcome to our community.

 

Please try these troubleshooting steps:
1. Make sure your phone is connected to the main network of your router, not the guest network or other networks.
2. Ensure your router's firmware is updated to the latest version available for your model.
3. Turn off any VPN application on your phone.
4. Turn off the mobile/cellular data on your phone.
5. Reboot your router.
6. Close the Tether app completely (force close it in the background) and reopen it.
7. For iOS devices, please enable "Local Network Access" permission for the Tether app (Settings > Tether app > enable Local Network Access).
8. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Tether app.
