no 802.11ax available for 2.4ghz with tl-wr1502x
Hello,
i have a bunch of rather exotic Mercusys MA14N AX300 Nano Wireless USB Adapters , which do support AX mode, but only can do 2,4Ghz.
currently they won't connect any faster then 54Mbs with 802.11n with my fritz box, which doesn't support AX
so i tried tl-wr1502x in AP mode - but unfortunately it does not offer AX mode on 2.4ghz .
is there any chance to get this supported?
chatgpt tells:
can most routers do ax mode on 2.4ghz? my tp-link wr1502ax doesn't
Short answer: yes, most Wi-Fi 6 routers can run 802.11ax on 2.4 GHz — but many don’t enable it by default, and some models (especially travel routers) limit it.
What the standard allows
The IEEE 802.11ax spec explicitly supports:
- 2.4 GHz ✔
- 5 GHz ✔
- (6 GHz with Wi-Fi 6E)
So there’s nothing unusual about “AX on 2.4 GHz” from a standards perspective.
can TP-Link remove this limitation, so that i can use my devices with 300Mbps instead of 54Mbps ?

Hi @RolandKl ,
Yes, you are correct; the 2.4 GHz band on the TL-WR1502X indeed does not yet support 802.11ax.
The screenshot you previously saw was taken from a generic simulator rather than the router's actual web management interface. Therefore, we have determined that this was a display error. And we have already forwarded this error to the relevant department for correction. Thank you for your feedback.

Hello @RolandKl ,
Welcome to our community.
I re-checked the specifications for the TL-WR1502X. It currently supports:
Wi-Fi 6
IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/a (5 GHz)
IEEE 802.11n/b/g (2.4 GHz)
Therefore, its 2.4 GHz band indeed does not yet support 802.11ax.

If you still wish to consider a portable travel router, you can switch to the TL-WR3002X.

so is this a matter of hardware/chipset or software/firmware ? you posted a screenshot before this post where you showed this option be available in ax1500 device, so i'm curious from what device this screenshot was from - that's why i posted screenshots as an answer to that.
