Hi,

i am looking to get a WiFi extender (or similar) because there are some dead zones in my house. I have a Vodafone Power Hub router.

I'm pretty sure that the RE705X can be used with this router but I would like to know us whether the extender can use the same WiFi name (SSID) as the power hub and devices automagically switch between them as needed? Ie form a mesh.

if not can any of your extenders do this?

  @SmilerIan Thanks for the reply.

Handily by moving the Vodafone away from the window / radiator it has stopped lossing connection with the Ring doorbell so all good for now :-)

Hi,

You can enter the same SSID in the RE705X that is used by the Vodafone Power Hub, but the RE705X cannot form a Mesh network with the Vodafone Power Hub and therefore cannot assist the clients with the switching. The same applies for any other TP-Link range extender.

If you want something that can build a Mesh network with your Vodafone Power Hub, then contact Vodafone and ask them if they are able to provide you a "Super WiFi Booster". (name might be slightly different depending on the country)

  @woozle Thanks for the reply.

If the same SSID is entered into the router and extender then, from I what I have read, it sounds like devices will just pick the stronger of the two signals. So if I take my phone from near router to nearer the extender will is switch automagically? That would suffice.

That wholly depends on the particular client device. There have been posts from users here who said they own client devices that switch just fine between non-Mesh APs with the same SSID and there have been posts from other users who experienced the exact opposite, i.e. devices didn't switch even if the signal was weak.

I myself haven't run such a setup in recent years, but I remember back when I did I was not satisfied with it.

  @woozle thanks for the info.

guess I could consider just replacing rhe router as home not that big. Would need to support DECT landline via the router that, I expect, complicates things somewhat.

The Vodafone router offers separate guest Wi-Fi. Would be great to have a third network for IOT devices.

Does anyone know of router that can provide DECT landline and three networks?

The RE705X can match your router's name, but it will not form a seamless mesh network with a Vodafone Power Hub. Instead, it will function as a standard extender, IPO Index, causing minor delays or connection drops when your devices switch between the router and the extender. To achieve an automatic, seamless mesh network, you can rent Vodafone's own Super WiFi 6 Booster. Alternatively, you can purchase a third-party TP-Link Deco system, IPO GMP, connect it to your Power Hub, and turn off the Vodafone router's built-in Wi-Fi entirely.
