Firmware Version:

I am experiencing an issue with my TP-Link AC750 range extender.

The extender was working perfectly with my previous internet connection and router before I moved to a new home. After moving, I received a new modem/router from my ISP and have been unable to connect the extender to the new Wi-Fi network.

I have tried both setup methods:

  • WPS pairing
  • Manual setup through the web interface and TP-Link Tether app

Unfortunately, neither method works.

During manual setup, the extender detects my Wi-Fi network correctly, and I enter the correct password. However, at the final step I receive the following error:

"Main Router Connection Failed" / "No Main Router Connection"

The setup page shows the correct SSID and password, but the extender still cannot establish a connection with the router.

Additional information:

  • Model: TP-Link AC750 Range Extender
  • The device worked normally with my previous router.
  • I have already tried resetting the extender to factory settings multiple times.
  • I have tried setup via both WPS and manual configuration.
  • The extender is placed very close to the router during setup.
  • The router broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks under the same SSID.

Could you please advise what might be causing this issue and how I can resolve it?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello @xyerus ,

Welcome to our community.

May I know the model number of your device? Please refer to How to find the model number of your TP-Link device

Since your new router has new WiFi settings, please correctly reset it first: With the power on, use a pin to press the reset hole/button for 1 sec.

When you can see TP-Link_Extender on the Wi-Fi list, that means you have reset the extender correctly. Please configure it as follows: How to set up a TP-Link Range Extender

  @Joseph-TP

Hello Joseph,

Thank you for your reply.

My extender model is TP-Link RE190.

I have already reset the extender several times. After resetting, I can see the default "TP-Link_Extender" network and access the setup page without any problem.

During setup, the extender successfully detects my router (SUPERONLINE_Wi-Fi_1657). I enter the correct Wi-Fi password and complete the setup process. However, the extender never establishes a connection to the router.

The 2.4 GHz LED does not light up and the setup eventually fails. The same issue occurs when I try to configure it using WPS.

Additional information:

  • Router security mode: WPA2-PSK
  • 2.4 GHz network is enabled
  • The extender worked perfectly with my previous router before I moved
  • The issue started only after replacing the router with a new Superonline modem/router

Could this be a compatibility issue between the RE190 and the new router? Is there any firmware update or specific router setting that I should check?

Thank you.

Hello @xyerus ,

Thanks for your reply.

Please try the following steps:

1. Validate the router's Wi-Fi password
Forget your router's Wi-Fi network on your phone, reconnect to it manually, and carefully re-enter the password. This confirms the password is 100% correct before entering it during extender setup. (Guide: How to remove existing wireless network profile on Android&iPhone)
2. Place the extender closer to the router
During setup, place the extender 2–3 meters away from the router and wait about 2 minutes after setup completes to check the LEDs.
3. Turn off MAC Filtering or Access Control on your router
If your Superonline router has MAC filtering or an Access Control (whitelist/blacklist) feature enabled, it may be blocking the extender. Please disable it and try again. Contact Superonline support if you need help locating this setting.
4. Upgrade the extender's firmware
5. Optimize your router's wireless channel settings
Disable Band Steering or Smart Connect on your Superonline router if enabled, and set the 2.4 GHz channel to 1, 6, or 11. If your router also has a 5 GHz band, set it to channels 36, 40, 44, or 48. (Guide: How to change wireless settings on TP-Link Wireless Router)

Best Regards.
