Archer BE400 and Manx Tekecom
Anyone else here using an Archer BE400 on Manx Telecom fibre?? (Isle of Man)
Decided to finally move from the ISP supplied Technicolor router to something better
Wondering if there are any gotchas I should be aware of before it arrives?
Thanks

Well my Archer BE400 arrived today so I gave it a quick road test
Luckily I do still have the MT login details, so created a PPPoE connection with the provided credentials, and it connected first time! No additional settings needed at all
I guess this is how it should be - but really wasn't what I was expecting!!
Onwards and upwards tomorrow

Hello@philgiom ,
Welcome to our community.
Based on previous user feedback and general configuration recommendations, here are the key things to be aware of:
1. Do you need the Technicolor router at all?
TP-Link Archer routers do not have a built-in modem or ONT, so this depends on how your fibre connection is delivered:
• If your fibre connection comes in via a separate ONT (Optical Network Terminal) box, and the Technicolor is just a router connected to it, you can simply replace the Technicolor with the Archer BE400 by connecting its WAN port to the ONT.
• If the Technicolor is acting as both the ONT/modem and router (an all-in-one unit), you may not be able to fully replace it. In that case, you'd need to connect the Archer BE400 behind it.
2. Watch out for Double NAT
If you end up connecting the Archer BE400 behind the Technicolor (because it can't be fully replaced), you'll have two routers on your network, which can cause Double NAT issues. This can make online gaming, video conferencing, and external connections less reliable. To avoid this:
• The best option is to put the Technicolor into bridge mode, so the Archer BE400 handles all routing directly.
• Alternatively, you can set the Archer BE400 to Access Point mode, but note that this disables advanced features like parental controls, QoS, VPN, and HomeShield.
3. VLAN/IPTV settings
Some ISPs deliver internet (and IPTV) over a tagged VLAN. If Manx Telecom requires a specific VLAN ID for the internet connection, you'll need to configure this under Advanced > Network > IPTV/VLAN on the router's web interface. It's worth checking with Manx Telecom whether they require any VLAN tagging before you set up.
4. General setup
Once everything is physically connected, you can set up the router by connecting a device to it and visiting http://tplinkwifi.net, or by using the Tether app on your phone. Your internet connection type and any login credentials (e.g., PPPoE username/password) can be obtained from Manx Telecom if needed.
Here is a setup video that provides step-by-step instructions: TP-Link Router Quick Setup.

Thanks
1 The Technicolor does connect direct to the ONT
2. So no double NAT issues
3. Pretty sure MT don't require any VLAN settings
4. I was really looking for actual user experiences
Thanks for the reply

I see, you can wait for responses from other BE400 users—let's look forward to hearing from them. ![]()
