Hi everyone,

I just got my TP-Link RE450, and i want to use it together with my 2012 iMac via gigabit ethernet to get faster connection to my Airport Extreme.

The Airport Extreme supports 802.11ac and this way, i'm planning to get the full benefit.

Never the less i cant get the RE450 to connect to the 5Ghz network - only 2,4GHz?

I have set the Airport to broadcast a 5GHz network, and i can connect to this directly so thats working fine.

The log states "Faild to connect to the front end, due to: Connection time out" ?

Any ideas?

thanks! ;)

In case you still haven't succeeded in connecting to 5G with your Airport Extreme, I also had problems connecting to 5G on my Time Capsule, which is basically an Airport Extreme with a hard disk. I discovered that if I set my 5G channel to 153 instead of auto, the RE450 will see my 5G network when scanning. I don't know why it won't see it in auto mode. Tech support even looked at my computer via remote. Their answer was to try to sell me a $250 "tune up". What a scam! Anyway, I'll just keep it set to 153 for now. Maybe they will release a firmware update to fix this problem someday, but I'm not holding my breath.

Can you see the 5G wifi of Airport Extreme on re450? Have you configured mac filtering on Airport Extreme.

Hello, I have this very same issue.

I am in Sweden in the EU using the RE450 with an ASUS RT-AC68U router. My RE450 BIOS is version 1.0.0 Build 20161202 Rel. 56846. Updated from the EU-region download section of the TP-Link website. It seems EU has not received the latest possible patch, available in the US and other regions.

2.4GHz is connecting but has some severe stability issues. The connection seems to drop out, frequently.
5.0GHz can be detected and selected using the RE450 network scanner but the RE450 is not connecting to this network.

In the log I get hundreds of lines such as these:
0 days 00:12:38 WIRELESS ERROR 2.4/5GHz failed the connection to the front end, due to: Connecting timed out.
0 days 00:13:06 WIRELESS ERROR 2.4/5GHz failed the connection to the front end, due to: Connecting timed out.
0 days 00:13:06 WIRELESS ERROR 2.4/5GHz failed the connection to the front end, due to: Connecting timed out.

I have tried:
- Experimenting with different 5GHz channels such as 40, 44, 48 etc etc.
- Experimenting with different channel bandwidth such as 20, 40, 80 MHz
- Changing the SSID names and passwords of all channels

Nothing is working to remedy the issue above.

Please help.

Best regards,
G

I registered to this forum just so I can say THANK YOU for posting the solution. Ever since the most recent firmware update on my Airport Extreme, my RE450 can no longer see it. It was driving me crazy. I had struggled 2 weeks trying to figure out why it's gone crazy. After reading your reply, I manually changed the 5G channel to 153 and voila!!! IT'S WORKING! My RE450 finally can connect to my Airport Extreme! Thank you so so much!!!
