In an attempt to solve disconnection issues that have been plaguing this setup right from the very beginning I tried updating the firmware on a kit of TL-PA4020P using the latest, namely TL-PA4020PKIT_V1_140208. However regardless of the platform (Win7/macOSX) / program used to perform the update and despite the program's claim that the update procedure is a success, I always get the MAC-QCA7420-1.1.0.844-01-20120919-FINAL in the end.

Is this how it's supposed to be, I mean the result dialog suggests that the update is success, however the programs claim otherwise and still shows evidence of the contrary...

P.S.: needless to say that the issues persist :/

If you have disconnection issues, the FIRST thing to do is NOT use the default password. If any nearby neighbor does the same thing, you'll be getting random conflicts.

While I appreciate the comment apparently this is not the issue, since the screenshots above were taken just after yet another attempt to update the firmware, having reset the units to their default values. So indeed when actually using the pair I choose a non-standard Network Name (not password which afaik the user can't change).

The question however is why I can't get the firmware to update, always reflecting the default 20120919 one, despite loading in the 20140208 one with the application claiming that it successfully goes through with the update :/

That's fine then - as for the firmware update, I have no further advice for you. The few times I've done this, with very old TL-PA251 and recent TL-PA8030P, it worked, no tricks involved. For all these atempts, I had attached a laptop directly to the LAN port of the device.

This is the exact same way I'm trying to update them, too...Mind you I've tried with 3 different computers already to no avail...I guess I'm either doing something completely wrong or BOTH of these are faulty and do not accept the new f/w...
