Guys,

I have had regular intermittent disconnect problems using 6 x TL9020P adaptors in my house, especially if used together with any older 1200 speed TP Link products. Switching back to previous generation 1200 TP Link products restores normal operation. These type of issues from many others are documented on the Amazon UK page for the product so I am apparently not alone. I have therefore long been hoping for a firmware update to address these issues.

I have recently noticed that whilst the TL-PA9020P V1 page still has firmware 160405 Dated: 05/04/16, the page for the TL-PA9020 has firmware 161009 Dated: 07/10/16. Are these the same underlying device - i.e. can I use the newer firmware - and is this the latest firmware ?

Also I note that there is now a V1 and V2 hardware version listed for the TL-PA9020P. What is the difference and are there any notable hardware improvements?

Thanks.

Thanks for your rely.

The 1200 WiFi device is the WPA8730. It is running the latest firmware your website.

I note that on the amazon webpage for the AV 2000 device, it says that there is a firmware update to fix this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-PA9020P-KIT-Gigabit-Powerline/dp/B01FFBN4MO

It says under reviews / comments:

TP-LINK UK OnlineSupport says:

Dear Customers,

Apologies for the delay in our reply.

TP-Link now has a beta firmware that has fixed the dropout problem. Please e-mail our support at onlinesupport.uk@tp-link.com and we will send you the Beta firmware.

Best Regards,
TP-Link UK.

However - I have emailed your support and received the following:

I am sorry I haven't found the beta firmware in our firmware database. the latest firmware version for the TL-PA9020PKIT is 160415(http://uk.tp-link.com/download/TL-PA9020P-KIT.html#Firmware

Best Regards

So it seems that the message hasn't reached your support department....

I still have this issue - I see that updated firmware has now been released - dated January 2017 - which hopefully improves things.

However, every attempt I make to update it gives an almost immediate error of "update failed' - on all 4 TP9020P devices. How do I get them to update?

Current firmware version shows as 3.2.4_902011_161009_902

Update is called BCM60500_v3.2.4_20170118_UK_PA9020Pv1.0.ggl

So I should be updating from 161009 to 170118 - which should work - but doesn't - any suggestions?

I ordered and received 4 new 9020P adaptors - suspecting the current issue is poor firmware that wont accept the update. The 4 new adaptors indeed did accept the new firmware version - but 2 out of 4 of them gave an "update failed" message after a minute or so - and now wont turn on at all - no lights when plugged in.

Needless to say I will be returning these to the vendor in question so all 6 currently faulty adaptors - 4 with firmware that wont update and 2 bricked ones will no doubt eventually make their way back to TP Link. Pretty poor that the firmware on these has such difficulty upgrading / not bricking the device!

I assume there is no way for a consumer to recover bricked firmware?

Even after the update I still get regular disconnects - the exact same powerline network was fine and stable on the older 8000 series adaptors. I see the updated firmware seems to have been removed from the website - any reason?

Hi, exactly the same issues. 2 out of 6 devices bricked while flashing "BCM60500_v3.2.4_20170118_EU_PA9020Pv1.0." Now the version is removed from the dl site without any notification. Strange behavior from TP-Link.
The devices are really unstable. :-(

FYI, I just ordered new ones from Amazon and sent back the duff ones as a DOA return. Zero cost to me that way, I get an advance replacement, and no need to spend time with TP-Link support...

As far as I can work out the EU firmware and the "9020" firmware is not 100% compatible with the UK firmware and the "9020P" firmware. But it in some combinations lets you flash it, so it's TP Link at fault....

nb - Flashing seems more reliable when you are directly connected to each target device - rather than being connected via the Powerline network - but there is no stated requirement to do this I could see on the upgrade instructions...

The updated firmware has been removed from all sites - not just the UK one... And it sucks that after many weeks - still no response to this thread from TP Link...

And yes - they are still highly unstable with any firmware version I have tried to date.
