TL-WR841HP router signal problem

I just bought this router today and description says: "range up to 10000 square feet", when my apartment is one third of that, but I have problems catching the signal anyway.
Signal is getting weak really fast, I may not be 100% precise here, but if I am about 100 feet away from router(in other room), I don't have any signal at all.
May it be cause I somehow configured it wrong (signal strength is set to 100%), or maybe it is defective router and I need to replace it?
