I have a cisco router/modem that connects to my internet. It has wireless but is situated too far from where my wireless devices are, and I cant move it. I have turned that wifi off since it is not usable from that location. DHCP, DNS, security, etc are all being run on this router

I also have just bought a tp-link archer c50 to have near where I need wireless access; I just want to use it to allow wifi devices to access the internet and other devices on the LAN. So far, I have connected it to the cisco router via an existing long rj45 cable. The rj45 connects one of the cisco LAN jacks to one of the tp-link LAN jacks. The tp-link internet jack is not connected to anything.

The tp-link wifi seems to be working fine; I can access the internet from wireless devices connecting to the tp-link; dhcp, dns, etc also seems to work fine even tho they are on the cisco

my problem is that the tp-link router itself does not seem to know how to get to the internet; I cant get it to get the current NIST time or tp-link upgrades

any ideas how I can fix that? thanks in advance
