Model: Archer C1200
Hardware Version: V7
Firmware Version: 0.2.0 0.9.1 v0069.0 Build 170303 Rel.59897n

Hi,

I have Archer VR900 Router which is NOT listed in the above drop-down menu so chose the nearest one.

It is Archer VR900 running with firmware ver 0.2.0 0.9.1 v0069.0 Build 170303 Rel.59897n.

I'm able to Wake on LAN my PC-A from PC-B without any problems within LAN. I'm planning to go on vacation for 50 days and I will need to boot my PC-A from Internet and access it via RDP.

1) I tried https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2156/  and variout other ways but none of them worked and I finally concluded that wake-on-WAN (wol over WAN/internet) is not possible.

2) Wondering if there's WOL tool on the router itself? I enabled remote administration on my router so I can login into my router over internet through HTTPS and then trigger WOL magic packet to wake my PC-A?

Please advise.

Thanks!!

Do not know of any function in the router. Something you may want to try is to set up port forwarding and assign a specific ip address and port to the PC-A and see if you can ping that port over the internet and see if it wakes it.

Another thought... Once PC-A has gone asleep, does a power down and up cycle wake it up? Then are you able to connect? If so, you could put a timer on the PC-A so it will power cycle at a set time each day or get a smart device that allows you to power down and up a device remotely such as X-10 WM100 and X-10 TM751 or such. You could also just change the sleep settings on PC-A to never sleep and power down the monitor or put it to sleep. I have an iMac and I can control the computer and display sleep settings separately. Not sure what Windows 10 has.

Hi,

The faq you refer to applies to the TP-Link SafeStream Router (business product) only, the Archer VR900 does not support this feature.

While you can enable the WOL on the PC-A first, and open the port 3389 for it on VR900. Below is the instruction.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1748/

How to enable WOL, you may search online. Below is an instruction: https://www.unifiedremote.com/tutorials/how-to-configure-wake-on-lan-on-windows

Then you can need use a 3rd party software to wake up the PC-A with the related information.

May it help and have a nice day.
