Hi Folks,

Just got this router set up last night. Had a quick look through the options and have a few questions.

Basically this question posted here but for the TP-Link Archer VR2800.

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/Combine-2-4GHz-and-5GHz-bands-under-a-single-SSID/m-p/1521520

Id prefer dealing with one SSID, is it OK to name both 2.4 & 5GHz SSIDs to the same name? Is there any downsides to be aware of, or better ways of doing this?

2.) Does the VR2800 auto switch between 2.4 & 5GHz to achieve best speeds? Again I'm not sure how this works with 2 separate SSIDs, hence Id like to merge/combine them.

Hope this makes sense!

Thanks,

Hi,

For your information, you can name both 2.4 & 5GHz SSIDs to the same; in this way, you do not have to change the network manually; for the roaming issue, it is still related to the clients whether they support it.

Besides, the Archer VR2800 does not support band steering or smart connect, it is hard to say whether the router will auto switch between two different wifi networks; While you can give it a go and test the performance. if the client won't be able to switch automatically to achieve better speed, you can name them different, and switch manually to get faster speed.

May it help and have a nice day.
