What is the led status of the TD-W8901N?
From what you said, the DSL led is on, while the disgnostic shows that ADSL synchronization failed, so I would like to confirm it.
With the DSL led on, try to hard reset the TD-W8901N by holding the reset button/hole for 10s with it powered on, and then connect the computer to the LAN port and setup the broadband connection with the username and password given by the ISP to verify whether you can get internet.

If the DSL led shows off, try to unplug and plug it back, remove the splitter and reset it.
May it help.

If the computer and other router can get internet with the same DSL line, there may have something wrong of the TD-W8901N.
You can contact the retailer or the local tech support to check whether the replacement is qualified.
