Model: Archer AX6000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.7 Build 20200212 rel.7095(4555)

My TP-Link Archer AX6000 Router looses connection with my Kasa Smart Plugs and Roku Streaming Stick whenever I have Smart Connect switched on. I have to switch Smart Connect off and reboot the router to get a stable connection with these devices. The Kasa Smart Plugs and Roku use 2.4Ghz only and worked worked perfectly with my previous Linksys router.

I have contacted TP-Link support and the agent told me that this was not a problem and this was simply the way Smart Connect worked. The only solution he recommended was to keep Smart Connect switched off. I asked if this would be fixed in a future firmware update and he repeated the view that there was not an issue!

The User Manual states that Smart Connect "helps devices run faster by assigning them to the best wireless bands".

In this link https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2595/ it states that it "automatically assign connected devices to the Wi-Fi band that provides the fastest speed"

It obviously doesn't seem to be doing this for the Kasa plugs or the Roku and if I switch the Smart Connect feature off then all the other devices I have loose the benefit of this feature.

So far I'm not very impressed. Am I missing somehting here? I don't understand how this it not a bug!

Do other people on the forum agree that this is a problem that should be fixed in the future via firmware?

@GaryF66

I suggest you to try beta firmwares in this post: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/175434?replyId=434980. It solved a problem with my devices to always stay on 2.4ghz and never steer to 5Ghz. I run this version ax6000v1_us-up-ver1-0-8-P9[20200318-rel14152]_beta_2020-03-18_16.03.53.zip
