Model: Archer A7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.0.14 Build 20200220 rel.33197

Hi,

I purchased an Archer A7, and it works great, when it works. In the latest firmware, it loses internet connection overnight. When I wake up, I find out the Internet LED indicator is solid orange and my devices cannot connect to internet until I power off/on the router. I tried resetting to factory settings, manually flashing the latest firmware and playing with a few settings, like Smart Wifi and QoS, no luck. Lastly, I downgraded to firmware version 1.0.9 Build 20190403 rel.72961(5553) to see how it goes. I'll test and keep you posted. Hopefully the issue is solved in a new firmware update.

@Kevin_Z I think I found the solution in a similar report. An agent suggested to manually set the DNS to the one from Google (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4). I've had no network drops since yesterday and connection was not lost overnight. I'm back to the latest firmware update. If I lose connection again I'll get back with your requested info and suggestions. Thanks!

Aaaand it just happened again, with the firmware version 1.0.9 Build 20190403 rel.72961(5553). Internet connection went down again.

According to the following website, this is a known software bug related to NAT Boost: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/111149

Disabling NAT Boost seems to do the trick, but sadly, it limits internet speed to a third. I hope there is  a fix for this. Even being one firmware version behind, this was not fixed in the latest one. What a drag!

@kevinyohh

Hello, thanks for reporting the issue.

May I have your network diagram and what is the model number of your modem? Who is your ISP?

This case may need to be further analyzed by the seniors with some debug or remote sessions. If you are willing to follow it up, our senior will contact you via an email once you provide the above info.

Thanks for your cooperation and have a nice day.

Setting the Google DNS was the definitive solution. I hope it's suggested in other interactions for the same issue. No network drops since then.

@Kevin_Z

im having the same issue. The latest firmware is periodically forcing my CPU to 100% briefly, then back down to 10%. I would love a follow up as I work from home and definitely need the support.

@JoshAM

Will the internet drop when the CPU jumps to 100%? How many devices are connected to the A7 network, wired and wirelessly? Are all of them losing the connection at the same time?

How about the internet LED, is it green or orange when the internet disconnects? BTW, who is your ISP?

Try to reset the A7 to factory defaults, reconfigure it from scratch when there is no need for the internet, then monitor again. You can also try to disable the NAT boost on it to confirm.
