Model: Archer AX50
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Just purchased an AX50 and am loving it so far.  However, last night ran into a problem that seems to be related to Smart Connect.

I turned Smart Connect on when first configuring the router.  (Which meant that my wifi network, named shadowfax, was running both 2.4 and 5 ghz under the same name.)

Then, later in the day, I was setting up my Chromecast.  I could connect the Chromecast to the wifi network, but I could not stream from my phone to the device.  It was like they weren't on the same network.  I looked into it using Tether, and the Chromecast had connected to 5G, while my phone was on the 2.4G.

Just to see, I quickly logged into the router and turned off Smart Connect.  The Chromecast start working immediately -- I was able to cast with no problem.  Now every device in my house is on the shadowfax network, not shadowfax_5g.

Is this a known problem with Smart Connect?  Any way to address this?

When the Smart Connect is enabled on the AX50, are the Chromecast and phone getting a correct IP address from the router? Were you able to ping the Chromecast from the phone?

Please check and ensure the AP Isolation is disabled on the AX50. You can find it under Advanced > System Tools > System Parameters.

@Kevin_Z thanks for your reply.  I just checked and AP Isolation is turned off.  I've not done any more work on this, as I simply turned SmartConnect off and moved everything to the same 2.4Ghz network.  It all seems to be working well, as the router is in a centralized location in the house.  If you have other suggestions for what might have been causing the issue, I'd love to hear it -- but I'm generally okay with it off anyway.  With 2 kids at home doing school, our Internet is kind of hard to mess with these days. :)

Thanks again.

Got it. The tech team was made aware of your issue, they will try to find it out.

Just to confirm, you mentioned that when you enabled the Smart Connect on the AX50, the Chromecast connects to the 5G network, and the phones connects to the 2.4G. After you disable the Smart Connect, you connect both to the 2.4G network, I'm wondering what if you connect the phone to the 2.4G and the Chromecast to the 5G again, will the issue persists? When you have time and if you are willing, please confirm this, thanks a lot.
