Problems of WDR-4900
Problems of WDR-4900
2013-02-16 22:50:36
Region : Hongkong

Model : TL-WDR4900

Hardware Version : V1

Firmware Version : 3.14.0 Build 130206 Rel.34701n

ISP : PCCW Netvigator

I have bought tp-link wdr-4900 for several days and encounter the following problems

1) nfs is not work, whenever I set up the nfs server (using hanewin nfs server), the media player fails to read the media file. (Problem does not appear for the previous ASUS n56u)

2) When there is large traffic rate (e.g. BitTorrent), the whole machine is very unstable, LAN and Wireless dies (SSID disappears, and LAN appears "ERR Connection" and "DNS not respond"), give me a feeling that the router cannot handle high traffic rate and the whole machine slows down and fails.

I have played around with the settings in the router and seek help for the above issues.

Thanks all!

Status

Have not found a solution yet...

I encountered the same case as Jacky, using the PCCW 1G fibre. When replaced the N750 with N900, the new one hanged and resumed itself about every ten minutes. At the moment, ping request timeout while wifi also disconnected. After testing, I put the N750 back to the same environment and it worked perfectly. No settings help to be the workaround of the bug, wish the fix could be available ASAP.

Same problem.

Here in netherlands with 120/10 MB internet via Ziggo provider.
After big traffic i have to reset (power on/off for 10sec) the router to get it to work again.
These days its like every half hour. I live with 9 people in a house and there are 8 computers.
4 via wire. Rest via wifi.

Anyone knows how to fix it till update is available?

Latest firmware, router wdr4900

Latest firmware, router wdr4900

I'm in the Netherlands as well... Provider is "OnsBrabantNet" (fibre-optic) Not even heavy traffic:
1PC (at the moment): Utorrent was doing in total 10kb/s up&down and was up for a few hours already.
Started surfing the web and within 10 minutes total lockup.
Already made a support request, but due to holidays (?) it might take up to 48 hours before i get response apparently. As i have this router now for 2 days... it's a bit of a disappointment really.

Same issue here, also in the Netherlands.

The router is fast, but looses the connection on the LAN (and probably also on wifi)

Below a ping to the router from a wire-connected computer.

64 bytes from 10.0.0.254: icmp_seq=1245 ttl=64 time=0.171 ms
64 bytes from 10.0.0.254: icmp_seq=1246 ttl=64 time=0.136 ms

64 bytes from 10.0.0.254: icmp_seq=1249 ttl=64 time=2903.618 ms
64 bytes from 10.0.0.254: icmp_seq=1250 ttl=64 time=1902.922 ms
64 bytes from 10.0.0.254: icmp_seq=1251 ttl=64 time=902.084 ms
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1259
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1260
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1261
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1262
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1263
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1264
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1265
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1266
64 bytes from 10.0.0.254: icmp_seq=1252 ttl=64 time=15141.157 ms
64 bytes from 10.0.0.254: icmp_seq=1253 ttl=64 time=14140.396 ms

It recovers after some time.

I did not have this issue with the previous router, so the cabling is not the problem.
Using the latest firmware: 3.13.2 Build 121211 Rel.59170n

Cable condition is ok? Do you have original patch cord?

I brought back the problem N900 router to vendor and they replaced another one for me, but still the same. It was tested that if the N900 connected to a testing environment with very light loading and no BT, it seems to be ok.

Another WDR4900 V1 user chime in.
Same case here, when the router receive a lot concurrent TCP connections.
The whole router became unstable.

1. Wifi keep disconnecting
2. Lan keep having lost packets.

You will need to reboot the router every time it does that.
And if the TCP connection amount retain, same problem will happen again in matter of seconds.

I already flashed the latest beta firmware(got it from the distributor)
Same problem.

I bought WDR4900 as an upgrade for my old trustworthy TP-Link 1043ND.
My 1043ND(with DD-WRT), despite the hardware are dated but NEVER had such a problem.
Really disappointed in WDR4900. This supposed to be a TP-Link flagship, no?
I expect it every bit better than my 2 years+ old 1043ND.

TP-Link please let us know if this is hardware design flaw or just firmware problem.
Either way we want a solution as fast as we can.
