Several problems with WDR-3600

Model :

Hardware Version : Not Clear

Firmware Version :

ISP :

I just bought this wdr-3600 v1.5 router to replace an old wr-941nd v5 router that used to be the "primary" on a WDS bridge setup with another 941nd.

This are my problems:

*The WDS connection in very unstable. I can ping the wdr-3600 from the secondary router but just for a brief period of time. Same goes for the internet connection which works for a few minutes and then dies. I tried every different channel/width but no luck, whereas the 941nd performed flawlessly (I have to use 2.4GHz since the secondary WDS router is not dual-band capable).
*Reading the forums I found turning the hardware NAT off could help, but it didn't.
*The bandwidth management is terrible. Clients that worked with no problems at 2Mbps speed now work at half the speed or lower on wired connections (even though I used the exact same settings from the previous 941nd router) Once again, enabling / disabling the hardware NAT doesn't help at all.
*Already tried changing the WDS setup (primary as secondary and viceversa) but the results were no different.
*Already flashed the latest firmware for the wdr-3600 (v1_150518) and performed a hard rest inmediately after. Started the setup from scratch, but the problems persist.

Is there something I am doing wrong? As I said earlier I'm using the exact same settings I used on the previous router. Any help will be appreciated.

WDR3600 is the main router and WR941ND is the WDS router, right?
Have you ever tested the stability of WDR3600 when it is working alone?
Change Channel width to 20MHz and fix a channel like 1. 6 or 11. Reconfigure your WR941ND.
By the way, check hardware verson and firmware version of your WR941ND. Upgrade its firmware to be latest version as well.

Hi Vivian. Thanks for the response.

- YES, WDR3600 is the main router and wr941ND is the WDS one.
- Indeed, I made the wdr3600 work alone for some days without any problems. Both the 2.GHz and the 5GHz worked good. The range and responsiveness were OK. That's why I decided to replace the previous primary router.
- As posted above, I tried with different channel widths (20, 40, auto) on both routers and different channels too. 1, 6 and 11 are the most recommended channels for 2.4GHz, but also the most common and therefore the most crowded in the neighborhood. Channel 2 turned out to be the least congested (it was the same with the previous router) so I used it. The connection lasted a bit longer, but was still below-par if compared with the QoS the 941ND used to give me. When checking the WDS status it constantly changed from "RUN" to "INIT" to "RUN". Ping also escalates from 6 - 15 ms to whooping 400 or more without a reason.
- The 941ND (WDS) router is v5 and updated with the latest firmware (build 140627).

I read different posts in forums about similar issues on WDR3500,, 3600 and 4300 and they point at the Hardware NAT and/or some undisclosed bug that is hardware related, otherwise a firmware upgrade would have solved all the problems. I'm starting to think the same as previous 'old' models without NAT performed quite well under (almost) any circumstances.

For future reference, this is my setup:

ADSL Modem (Static) IP: 10.0.1.1
Main Router IP (connected to ADSL via WAN): 10.0.1.2 (255.255.255.252) Default Gateway 10.0.1.1
Main Router LAN IP: 10.0.100.1 (255.255.255.0)
Main Router DHCP: 10.0.100.10 - 10.0.100.25
WDS Router LAN IP: 10.0.100.2 (255.255.255.0)

I'm racking my brains trying to make WDS work as with the previous router, but I simply can't. Any ideas?
