Model: Archer A20
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I purchased a brand-new TPLINK C4000 A20 WiFi router recently (June 2020) and installed it around Oct-2020.

It is working very well.  I have started to probe into the other features.

The one I have some questions about is the Traffic Monitor.

When this setting is ON, it asks for two parameters:  (a) by device, including ALL  (b)  minutely, hourly or daily.

I turned it ON,selected ALL devices and selected DAILY.  I left it alone for about 4-5 days, then checked again.

The graph changed to a 7-day axis (which is expected), but it couldn't display more than one (1) day's traffic.

I checked the log, and found out that the router resets the data every 24 hours.

I looked everywhere for a setting that would change this, but to no avail.

Also, the Minutely and Hourly features work but there is no feature to look at past traffic -- this means you

must catch the data you want to monitor at that moment (span of 10 minutes to minutely, one day for hourly)

or else it will be gone.

I must be missing something -- unless this is the way its supposed to work.  If so, then the traffic monitor is of limited value.

Hope some expert on this specific product model can provide some tips, guidance or suggestions.

Thankin you in advance.

@HP15z

Are you enabling the Reboot Schedule on the Advanced->System Tools page? If yes, this traffic monitor data will be cleared daily once the router is rebooted.

I've never used that feature TBH, but my educated guess is that there's no enough memory in the device to store the past data, so you can visualize them, when you want to.

Thanks ... that sounds like a reason for the "limited" capability. Are there other models in the TPLINK family of wide range WiFi routers -- e.g., AX6000 -- that can do more than just the last 10 minutes or the last 24 hours?

Honestly, I don't know, since I have never used that feature, but you can browse through emulators of different TP-Link products and see if there is such an option. The other thing you can do is to browse the threads in the forum and see the experience of other users regarding this feature - I am pretty sure I saw similar issues here.

@HP15z

Many thanks Kvein_Z -- it never occurred to me that this was the root cause!

Yes, I had early on scheduled the router to reboot every 24 hours -- that explains it!

My sincerest gratitude for your keen analysis and response.  Much appreciated.
