Model: Deco P9
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.1.2 Build 20200918 Rel. 74476

Hi

I can't figure out why the Deco P9 I have is giving me a slower speed via ethernet to my PC than the router provided by the ISP (BT Hub 2)

I've run some tests with both fast.com and speedtest.net using both CAT6 & CAT 5e cable.

I'm running the Deco P9 in these tests in modem mode connected straight to the wall without the BT hub in between.

On all variations, the supplied BT hub beats the Decos. Why would this be the case?

FAST SPEED TEST FAST SPEED TEST
    Test CAT 6   CAT5e
DECO P9   1 750 618 680 730
    2 760 702 820 610
    3 730 790 650 910
    AVG 747 703 717 750

BT HUB 2   1 710 900 780 910
    2 820 910 800 890
    3 830 900 750 910
    AVG 787 903 777 903

Thank you

@MattWT

Hey MattWT

Just looking at the results you are getting from speedtests online, i have to be honest and say i dont see any difference here..

Both devices are 1GB ports on the LAN, if you had constant results around ~950mbps you could say one device was faster than the other as you are hitting the maximum of the port on that device.  However both your devices read highs of 910 so its not hardware limited.

Online tests, especially at your speeds are netoriously unreliable, especially at the speeds you are testing.  I personally wouldnt go thinking one is faster than the other based on this.   The hardware is clearly capable of over 900,  as your averages are around 750 with ~30 margins I personally think this is just down to traffic on the remote server at the time.

With highs and lows on both devices being so vastly different (910 vs 700) clearly the remote server is the issue here..

If you really want to test the hardware itself, connect 2x client devices to each and run IPERF3 tests over the ports and this will tell you the true hardware speeds.. my guess both will come out at ~960mbps
