Model: Archer C5400X
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.2 Build 20191223 rel.73956(4555)

Hi,

Yesterday I have just upgraded my Archer C6 router to the Archer C5400X because I wanted to have faster WDS speeds.

So now I have an Archer C5400X router connected to my main router (UPC Giga Connect Box) via WDS using 5GHz-1. The main router (UPC) is connected to the Internet. The WDS Wi-Fi channel is set to 36 so I have to use 5GHz-1.

Before I upgraded to the Archer C5400X I had an Archer C6 and it's WDS/WiFi settings were the same as in my new Archer C5400X and everything was working fine.

The problem I am facing is that when I enable WDS on my Archer C5400X on the 5GHz-1, the WDS connection works fine but the Wi-Fi 5GHz-1 does not work at all. The 5GHz-2 one works fine.

On my Archer C6 when I enable WDS on 5GHz the 5GHz WiFi works fine, the SSID appears on the list of available networks. But on the Archer C5400X when I enable WDS on 5GHz-1 the 5GHz-1 WiFi SSID do not appear on the list of available networks just like it is disabled or using WDS on 5GHz-1 excludes using the 5GHz-1 WiFi network.

My UPC Giga Connect Box configuration is the following:

IP: 192.168.0.1

WiFi 5GHz SSID: WiFi Bridge 5G

WiFi 5GHz channel: 36

My Archer C5400X configuration is the following:

IP: 192.168.0.2

WDS 5GHz-1 SSID: WiFi Bridge 5G

WiFi 5GHz-1 SSID: WiFi Clients 5G

So with the above configuration, when my Archer C5400X connects via WDS to the UPC Giga Connect Box via 5GHz-1 (SSID "WiFi Bridge 5G"), the WiFi 5GHz-1 with SSID "WiFi Clients 5G" does not work at all and do not appear on the list of available WiFi networks. If I just disable the WDS the 5GHz-1 "WiFi Clients 5G" works.

What I have tried:

- I have the newest firmware

- Flashed the firmware to the newest version

- Rebooted, restored factory defaults via interface and button

Please tell me if this is a bug in the firmware or my router is faulty.

Edit: the same happens if I switch WDS to 5GHz-2 -> then the 5GHz-2 WiFi does not work. It seems that enabling WDS on either the 5GHz-1 or 5GHz-2 prevents WiFi on this band from working. On my Archer C6 it does not do that, you can use WDS on the 5GHz and 5GHz WiFi at the same time :/

Besides the above I have found something interesting. If my WDS is configured on 5GHz-1 then all clients connected to the 5GHz-2 WiFi can't ping my UPC Router (192.168.0.1) that is behind the WDS and they also can't connect to the Internet (because they can't access the UPC Router connected to the Internet). And sometimes I can't ping the UPC Router nor access the Internet from devices connected directly to the Ethernet ports of the Archer C5400X. A reboot of the router fixes the problem for clients connected to the Ethernet ports but not for the WiFi ones.

I have called the TP-Link support and they said that my router is faulty as all the WiFi bands should be available even when WDS is on.
