Model: Archer AX1500
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.1 Build 20201116 Rel. 57080(5553)

Interesting problem- The normal 5G Channel completely fails to connect- sudden onset problem.

Guest 5G works fine.

Anyone have a clue?  Firmware up to date, no heat issues.

Are the A71, S5E Tab and Oneplus 7T detecting the main 5G signal or not? Which 5G channel on the AX1500 now? You may try to change the 5G wireless channel to 36/44, then reboot the AX1500 to confirm.

Additionally, please check if the A71, S5E Tab and Oneplus 7T can connect to other 5G networks.

@Kevin_Z

Ok- the complete factory reset worked.  Everything connecting normally now.

Darn those stray cosmic rays!wink

Thanks for your help- I relayed that to the engineer Ives as well.  Hope it doesn't spontaneously degrade again surprise

Can you please explain this in more details "The normal 5G Channel completely fails to connect"? Does this mean the 5G drops and cannot connect back on the devices? How often does this happen? You may try to modify the 5G wireless settings on the AX1500, such as changing the channel to 36 or 48, channel width to 40MHz, security to WPA2-PSK, AES, then reboot the AX1500 to monitor.

When did this issue happen? Since the purchase or it happens recently? Any change in the router firmware or network?

Ok.  There are 2 SSID's I can access 5G on.  One is the default channel, the other is the "guest" channel, which has a different SSID.

I was using the Default SSID for 5G access.  Now, it displays its name on my phone, let's say, but will not connect.  I had been using a tablet all day on that Default SSID, 5G.

The tablet lost connection.  I couldn't connect to the 5G I've been using for months.  Nothing connects.

I turned on the "Guest" 5G.  It works just fine.  That puzzled me.

Then, I tried changing, on the DEFAULT SSID 5G the settings for channel width and number, and it connected for a few seconds to my phone, and dropped.

The GUEST SSID 5G works fine, even set to the same channel and width as the Default, or any other channel and width, as I'd expect.

If I turn off the GUEST SSID, the Default SSID still wont connect under any combination of channels or widths or powers.  I've rebooted, reset, and the firmware is correct and up to date.  There's nothing I can think to do to get the Default SSID 5G to work again.

The same thing has now happened with the 2.4 band; the Default SSID won't work at all, and the GUEST mode 2.4 works fine when enabled.

I use WPA2-PSK AES.  Guest channels, when enabled, work.  Regular SSID's won't connect at all.  I don't know how much better I could explain it.

Thanks for the quick reply and detailed info. When you tried to connect to the main 5G or 2.4G network on the phone or tablet, was there any error message, such as cannot connect...?

Please try to create a different network name for the 5G network again, ensure it is different from the old name, then reboot both the AX1500 and the tablet or phone to confirm.

BTW, the tech team was made aware of your issue, they will likely reach out to you via email to continue to troubleshoot your issue.

@Kevin_Z I'll give that a shot, Kevin; thanks for any ideas.

I don't see any particular error messages pop up.  I'll update you after I try what you've asked.

Thanks,

Steve

@Kevin_Z

Hi Kevin.  I did all the reboot things and changing channel names, etc.

Now I'm finding all my computers connect to the standard channels, both 2.4 and 5G.

None of my Android devices do.  Kinda bizarre; I didn't assign any MAC addresses in the router settings.

Seems like the problem is in Android?  I know I just had Android 11 upgrade on my A71, my S5E Tab and Oneplus 7T are on 10 and both only connect to the guest channel now.

Ok.,

Turning off security on the Default channels allows the Android devices to connect.  (except the google home stuff, they require security, so they have no access)

,

Turning on security on the guest channels will not allow any of my android devices to connect ( A71, Oneplus 7T, S5E, Tab A 10" 2016, none of the Google home devices I have sprinkled around the house (home, homemini, chromecasts, etc.)

It's bizarre.  Access control is off.  Renamed everything and turned off security, everything (except google home devices, which require security) connects just fine, both channels.

Renamed the default channels.  Rebooted.  Turned on wpa2/wpa2psk, both in AES and TKIP/AES modes.  No Android (including my neighbor's G7) will connect.

The only thing I can think of now is to do a total reset and start fron scratch.  I'll let you know how that goes.
