Hi

 

I bought ac1200 to be my router about 6 months ago and I've had some problems with it for some time now.

 

Problem:

 

Router sometimes turns all lights off/sometimes leaves power light on and while this mode is on ethernet + wifi are both down.

 

This usually takes 2-10 mins to recover and restarting the router via turning it off and on again with its power button usually fixes the problem.

 

I've attached routers syslog and timestamp 2021-02-21 03:48:36 marks latest time it went to this error mode. I have not restarted the router since and I did let it recover on its own so the log should contain everything about the incident I can give to you (to mee it seems it just has the router powering up after restart/crash). (I assume the log file is stored on volatile memory and is wiped every time the router restarts)

 

To my knowledge this happens periodically and I have been monitoring it with RPI and it seems it does it 1-2 times per week. (I cannot see pattern in it)

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Combination of upgrading the firmware and moving the router to more ventilated position seems to  have fixed the issue.

How many devices are connected to C1200, wired, and wirelessly?


Is there any other setting or feature in your network that may cause this restart issue, or is there any special operation/activity in your network that causes the C1200 to restart?


Please check if the C1200 is hot when it reboots automatically, put the router in a well-ventilated location or mount it vertically on a stand that permits the free flow of air, and use a fan to cool the router, a regular fan or USB fan is fine.


Try to reset it to factory defaults by holding the reset button on it until all the LEDs go off then on, reconfigure it from scratch, then monitor again.


If none of the above helps resolve it, please try the below beta firmware on your C1200 and confirm if the auto-reboot issue will be resolved:

How many devices connected:

3-4 ethernet

2-4 wifi

I'm not sure what could cause this. The network contains few smart tv, few windows pc + few linux pc + phones. I don't really do much more than network file sharing and ssh over local network

 

 

 

Please check if the C1200 is hot when it reboots automatically, put the router in a well-ventilated location or mount it vertically on a stand that permits the free flow of air, and use a fan to cool the router, a regular fan or USB fan is fine.

 

The router is warm  like 40-50 C (on the bottom plastic) when I have tried it. Is the passive cooling for the router not good enough for room temperature of 22 C where it is sitting on hard surface? Is it normal that the router will just overheat under I would say "normal operations"?
