Model: Archer C6
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.3.6

Hi,

I'm using an Archer C6 as access point. I configured it to obtain an IP via DHCP.

It works, but it keeps on sending a DPCP request every 32 seconds. This is the log from my router, apu is the router hostname, apletto the archer one:

It's going like this since an year or so, can't we raise the lease timeout to something reasonable (e.g. 12 hours) or at least make it configurable?

Regards,

Hello, as far as I understand, this is normal when the smart DHCP is on the C6 when it is working as an access point. When we enable the Smart DHCP on it, it will continuously check if the DHCP server on the network is correctly on, it will turn itself on if it finds there is no DHCP server in the network.

Back to your concern, you can disable the DHCP server on the C6, and choose static IP for the LAN, there won't be an issue then:

Can you try if just setting the C6 DHCP server from Auto to Off will suffice to stop the exchange of these DHCP messages ?

But that will result in losing the number of wired and wireless clients on C6 Network Status page (in AP mode):

I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

@Ivaylo I have the DHCP _server_ turned off because I have another DHCP server in the same network.

OK, when you set Static IP (instead of Smart IP), has the problem been resolved and what about wired and wireless clients' numbers, are they displayed correctly ?

The number of clients it's always 0, but I don't need it, the other dhcp server is providing the same informations. Yes if I set static IP it "fixes" it, but that's just a workaround. Can't we have DHCP with a sane lease time?

Can you try now to set the Static IP, DHCP server to Auto and observe again if the DHCP messages are there and what's the clients number ?

In Auto the device will sense if there's an additional DHCP server in your LAN (which you have) and will turn it Off automatically (no reboot needed).

@Ivaylo tried, it still doesn't solve the continuous requests issue:

@Ivaylo I don't care about the cliet number. I don't neet it, it can also be wrong or zero.

I wish that the Archer doesn't flood the network with DHCP requests.

@teknoraver

If the network status info from C6 is not important for you then the Kevin's quick fix will prevent these messages exchange.

The changes regarding DHCP requests frequency would require a new FW version release.
