Model: Archer C6
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.05

I have a 300mbps fiber optic connection and I bought an archer C6 v3.2 and bridged it to my home gateway. I have done a few tests to confirm it is in true bridge mode like running a tracert to google . On 5ghz I get about 330mbps and on lan I get about 370. On 2.4ghz however, it is slow as hell at about 20 mbps. My room which is about 30 meters with 2 walls in between, 5ghz gets 150mbps but 2.4ghz get maximum 20 anywhere in my house. I know 2.4ghz can be expected to be a lot slower but 20 mbps is waaaay too low and this router is rated for 300mbps on 2.4ghz. Besides, even on my home gateway I get 180mbps on 2.4ghz. I mainly need 2.4ghz on my PS4 which doesnt support 5ghz. This is annoying me so much. These are the steps I have taken so far :-

  • Check for interference from other device. only device I can think of is my wireless landline and i get the same speeds with it turned off. I have also disabled wlan on my home gateway from my isp.
  • Tried every channel, every channel width, and every wifi protocol
  • Security is set to WPA2-PSK with AES encryption.
  • Transmit power is set to high
  • QOS is disabled
  • Disabled almost every security feature, nat, dhcp basically everything on my home gateway. (But probably not the problem becase I get full speed on ethernet and 5ghz)
  • Tried updating the firmware. But this router is new and there is no firmware for archer c6 v3.2 .

Any help is greatly appreciated.

@galacticwarrior

Can you please confirm how did the C6 is bridged to the home gateway, via wireless or cable? How did you configure it?

How about the link speed on PS4 when it is connected to the C6 2.4G network? Can you please confirm the link speed also on a laptop, check if it can negotiate at the maximum 300Mbps? Please provide the brand and model of the wireless card, we can verify if it can negotiate at 300Mbps then.

If that is possible, please try to configure the C6 in AP mode, then confirm again if the 2.4G speed is better.

@Kevin_Z I have bridged it using an option given in my home gateway. I plugged a cat6 cable into the lan port of my gateway to the wan port of my router. The internet is configured using PPPoE. I have put my router in DMZ, disabled wlan, disabled nat and dhcp(automatically done by bridging) and disabled all firewall options. running a tracert -4 google.com on my pc only pings my router and not my gateway which means it is in bridge mode, I think. Also I don't think this issue is related to my bridge because I am getting full speeds on ethernet and 5Ghz. As for the speed I get the exact same 20 mbps on my PS4, tried 3 different pcs having intel ac 3168, intel ac7265, intel ac 3160, and I tried 2 phones S9+ and an S10+ . The link speed in control panel seems to vary a lot, but its usually at 72. Sometimes it goes to 130. But I have never seen anything higher than that. Its around 360 in 5Ghz.

I just tried AP mode, and no difference.

  @Kevin_Z  Am facing the exact same issue even on the latest firmware. Tried everything in vain.
