TL-WDR3600 as a switch?

The WDR360 works well as a router. However, it is connected to my existing router via cable, I need it not to be a router, but to be nothing more than a switch for wired and an access point for wifi.
Like WDS, but bridging with a wire not wireless. It should be easier, surely!
So the WAN port of the TL-WDR3600 is connected to a normal LAN port of the existing router.
The existing router is the DHCP server for my network, and has the range say 172.10.10.1/24 The TL-WDR3600 has a different range, e.g. 192.168.1.1/24. So devices on the main router cant "see" devices on the TL-WDR3600 - they are two separate networks.
I only want one network, i.e. everything on 172.10.10.1/24 with one DHCP server. Is this possible? I don't know what you call this.
Obviously I could create static routes, and perhaps give all devices a static IP, but this would be a big pain to administer, and would not solve the problem in that broadcast would not work between networks still, so PCs would not be able to "see" printers etc, bonjour would not work, my mobile devices cant see my amplifier etc.
Any ideas, or have I bought the wrong wifi device?
