Archer AC 1600 as access point
Dear all,
I'm writing this topic to ask you suggestions regarding an issue with my device.
I have an ISP modem, and I'd like to use AC1600 as an access point to extend the wifi coverage.
This is what I tried so far. I'll label the AC1600 as "AP" and the ISP modem as "modem"
First attempt
1. Assign static ip to AP 192.168.1.250/24
2. Disable dhcp for AP
3. Modem is default gateway at 192.168.1.1/24
4. Add dhcp static configuration to modem to assign always the same ip to the AP
5. Connect the AP lan 1 interface to the modem Ethernet port
6. Configure AP wifi settings to broadcast the same ssid and configure same WPA2 key as the modem
7. Default operation mode is DSL modem router
Result
A. AP can be reached through its ip
B. Devices connected to AP wifi CAN'T access the network
C. Devices connected to AP lan interface CAN access the network
Attempt 2
1. Same configuration as above
2. Connect modem lan interface to AP at port LAN4/Wan
3. Set operation mode as wireless router
Result
A. Although from the manual it says that the AP will share the connection coming to LAN4 port, devices connected to wifi can't access the network
B. AP is no longer reachable through its ip address
I'm clueless about what I could try more or what I'm doing wrong.
Can you please help? Any suggestion will be appreciated
I thought to try to subnet the network, with a network for modem and a network for access point. Then set a default route to modem. But I would like discard this idea to reduce network complexity
