Hi All,

Been browsing the internet and cannot find a definitive answer:

Can the archer C7 be configured as an access point only i.e connected to another router which connects to the internet?

Thanks in advance

Go to this link and make the router work as an AP: http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=417

yes, just set mine up and it appears to be working well. However, I have had weeks of problems trying to connect them thenother way around - ie when using the Archer C7 as the main router, and the WR as the AP, the WR would not connect reliably to it, or more precisely it would not connect through the Archer to the internet. I have a couple of other routers set as AP's and they worked fine. Strange that the two TP's would connect together in this configuration. But with the WR as the main router and the Archer as the AP, everything seems fine. So far!

How were you able to put the Archer C7 in AP mode? Whenever I try to enter addresses in the same subnet for both WAN and LAN it gives me an Error 5008, cannot have WAN and LAN addresses in the same subnet.

Are you trying to use the WAN or LAN ports?

That can be a common error if you accidentally try to use the WAN port, mess with WAN settings, &/or try to set an static IP on the router before switching the DHCP range (even though you will later disable DHCP server on the access point).

I'm trying to use both. Isn't the Access Point configuration supposed to give LAN/Wireless clients access to the subnet that the WAN is part of?

If you configure the router as an access points, its WAN port cannot be used. You have to connect the main router and other clients to LAN ports of it. No need to configure WAN.

If you are trying to use the WAN port so that you do not use up one of the LAN's, it requires third party firmware.

C7 running AP
2016-01-08 15:07:37
Disable Firewall
Disable DHCP on LAN
Disable NAT

Internet cable goes to LAN1 (or any LAN port) on C7 - and to the main router (Any) LAN port.

Set C7 IP to a fixed IP 192.168.X.X

Restart both routers
Done!

TPlink tether doesn't seem to work well when I make my archer 7 an AP
2017-02-08 12:10:31
I'm using a TL-R600VPN as the main, with DHCP running on it. Since tether is connecting to my archer, I only see a handful of devices now, rather then all the bits and pieces on wifi I used to. Am I stuck because the archer is no longer the dhcp host?
