Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: Version 1.5.1 build 202110126 Rel. 59387

I'm having issues with my phone, that will loose connection when moved from one room to another, and switches from one Deco to another.

On my Oneplus 6 running Android 11, the problem shows like this:

- The wireless works fine in one room.

- When I move to another room, and I can see on my Deco App that I connect to another Deco, I loose internet.

- After a few seconds, and exclamation-mark shows up next to the WiFi icon on my phone to show that something is wrong. I have zero access to the internet at this point.

Weird thing is, on my phone, it didn't happen until I upgraded to Android 11. There was no issue when I was a version 10. My girlfriend has had version 11, and thinks she's had the issue for a while, but is a bit unclear about it.

Info on my network:

- 2 TP-link M9. One is the main, the other one is just part of the mesh

          - I have a router/modem in bridged mode, and my main Deco is physically connected to this.

- Both Version 1.5.1 build 202110126 Rel. 59387

- Dynamic IPv6 and IPv4

- They are in rooms next to each other, so there is probably quite and overlap in the wireless connections, but my devices are pretty good at switching to the strongest source.

I can fix the issue by turning the wifi off and on on my phone, but it's pretty annoying in the long run having to do that every time I move from one room to the other.

I have naturally tried:

- Turning everything off and on

- Made a reset on both Decos

It has been a problem for quite a while, at least since october 2021. I have followed this post a bit, where others seem to be reporting the exact same issue: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/189398?replyId=1005516

I can gather some logs if needed, but let me know how much and which ones you want. And where to send them so I don't need to upload them here in the open.

@SuneChrist

I have member of my household with Google Pixel 5, which came with Android 11. I turned off MAC Address Randomization under my home WiFi SSID settings in that smartphone and its user never saw the issue you described. My home network is a mix of M9Plus and M5, running in AP mode.

See this article for where this setting is, and disable it: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-enable-a-randomized-mac-address-in-android-10/

See if that helps. It appears, that feature was turned off by default in Android 10, on by default in Android 11.

@Alexandre.

I have tested it out, and unfortunately it doesn't work.

Thank you for the suggestion though!

@SuneChrist

Whatever other troubleshooting you will be doing, I would suggest keeping "MAC address randomization" off for any smartphone connected to your home network. Not only that randomization is unnecessary for home networks, but could trigger other issues.

I just noticed TP-Link released firmware 1.5.6 for Deco M9 Plus. I did not receive notification, but ran "Update Deco" from Deco app and it appeared there. See if it is available in your Deco app and if updating M9 firmware could fix the issue you described. There is nothing about this issue in release notes, but when something is not working "update to latest firmware/software" is the standard recommendation.

Strangely, my app says the devices are up-to-date. I'll try in the next couple of days. And yes, I'll keep the random MAC assignment off. Could it be DHCP issues? My range is 192.168.68.100 - 192.168.68.250, so it should be plenty for the 14 devices I have on.

I updated to 1.5.6 Build 20211018 Rel. 35617, but the issue is still there.
