Ok, I've just tested this use case (Extending an Android Hotspot) on my own, albeit with another TP-Link model, and I had similar issues.

At the end I've got it working by changing the setting of the "WDS Mode" from "Auto" to "3 Addr", which may also be named "WDS1" on some router models.

With "WDS Mode" at "Auto" it would not work.

So this may be something you might want to try as well.

As for "... and cannot access router TL-WR940N anymore neither through 192.168.43.1 or http://tplinkwifi.net/ address and need to reset TL-WR940N".

After the TL-WR940N has successfully connected to the Android Hotspot you can access its GUI via the link http://192.168.43.X, with "X" being the number you've assigned as the address of the TL-WR940N.

192.168.43.1 is the IP address of the Redmi phone, which doesn't have any admin page. And I am not sure if http://tplinkwifi.net/ is still supposed to work if the TL-WR940N is set to Range Extender mode.

Hi,

Can you please verify if the Redmi phone's hotspot is indeed using an IP address in the 192.168.0.0 subnet?

Many, but not all, Android phones I have come accross were using the IP address 192.168.43.1 for their Wi-Fi hotspot feature, which would mean the Static IP address you enter during the Quick Setup of the Range Extender could be set to any address from 192.168.43.2 to 192.168.43.255.

But as I indicated, some Android phones use a different subnet, so you need to check that on your Redmi phone. Just connect a computer or another phone to the hotspot of the Redmi and then look up the IP address of the "Gateway", which will be your Redmi's IP address. The "Static IP" of your TL-WR940N in range extender mode needs to be in the same subnet.
