Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

I have 4 decos at the moment all spread throughout the house.

- Unfortunately all the deco's repot into the main deco rather than reporting into the one that closest.
Can someone tell me if this is by design or am i doing something wrong in the setup? Its really frustrating  as the signals from the decos furthest away are very weak.

- Networking options - I hear you are able to daiychan the decos together which is a viable option. Is anyone able to tell me if i can incorporate a switch instead where all the decos are connected to the switch rather than to one another. This would make it much easier and neater when running cables back to a central point.

Thanks

Satellite Deco node prefers to connect to Main Deco. Decision where to connect is made automatically. Satellite Deco could choose different Deco to connect to, but only if signal from Main Deco is extremely weak or non-existent. This is the source of frustration for many people coming to that forum, which TP-Link started to address. With firmware 1.6, you will have the ability to define to which Deco node Satellite Deco should connect.

Firmware 1.6 have been released for Deco M5. It is promised for M9 Plus, but ETA is unclear. Could be few weeks or few months. If you ask nicely TP-Link Support, they might share beta firmware with you, but you have better solution you should try.

The network option you have mentioned is the best option if it is viable. The network configuration you have should work. More about this in Deco FAQ General questions about Ethernet Backhaul feature on your Deco

This is superior solution to WiFi backhaul. In my tests at my household, I could get wired Satellite Deco M9 Plus deliver up to 633Mbps on WiFi, while on wireless backhaul the best I ever got from Satellite M9 Plus placed in ideal spot was 490Mbps.
