Model: Archer VR900
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 0.3.0 0.9.1 v0069.0 Build 200228 RC.33306n

Due to some issues with changing ISPs, I've had to reset my VR900 back to factory default, although I took screenshots of all the settings so I could reconfigure it when it was back up. For some reason now, however, I can't connect to my computer via RDP of the Public IP anymore.

This is how I've got it setup.

NO-IP NUC:

  • Forwarding ****.zapto.*** to my Public IP

TP-Link VR900 Network LAN Settings Address Reservation

  • MAC Address: 54:##:##:##:##:##:57
  • Reserved IP Address: 192.168.1.###
  • Group: Default

TP-Link VR900 Virtual Server:

  • Service Type: Remote Desktop
  • External Port: #####
  • Internal IP: 192.168.1.###
  • Internal Port: 3389
  • Protocol: TCP or UDP

Normally I'd be able to open up an external RDP session to ****.zapto.***:##### and that would connect to my computer, but I'm getting the following error.

Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these following reasons:

1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network

Make sure that the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network and that remote access is enabled.

I have already confirmed the following

  • WiFi is a Private Network
  • Port 3389 has been added to the Incoming Connections on the Firewall for TCP and UDP
  • Target computer IPv4 address is 192.168.1.###
  • Target computer running Windows 11 Pro 22H2
  • Target computer System > Remote Desktop = ON
  • Target computer Allow connections to this computer = ON / Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (Recommended) = ON / Users = Everyone
  • Target computer Remote Desktop service is running/ automatic
  • Port Check on NO-IP confirms that 3389 is not open
  • I am able to connect to the PC from my internal network using 192.168.1.### but not from an external network using either the Public IP or the NO-IP address

Any ideas?

  @Rexamillian

If you have changed your ISP, make sure that your Internet IP address in VR900, is your public IP address registered with No-IP.

If they are different then that's the reason RDP is not working (e.g. your new ISP may use a CG-NAT or it offers a private IP address as Internet IP address in VR900).

There's a troubleshooting guide for this kind of issues.
