Hello,

 

My RE650 is amazing and working perfectly, but there is something that I need to understand...The extender is connected to both 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz as well as transmitting both (all lights are blue) actually I was amazed that it can connect to the router's 5GHz as the distance is more than 15 meters away. However, whenever I run a speed test the 5GHz's download speed is always slower than the 2.4GHz.

 

My previous WiFi extender used to connect to the 2.4GHz only and transmitted both 5GHz & 2.4GHz the 5GHz always had a faster download speed, which makes sense as it was connected to one band. As per my understanding all WiFi extenders "in general" should extend the same band signal. Anyways, I've read the RE650 manual to figure out how it works in detail but couldn't find an answer, but I've noticed the setup of the high-speed section in the below-attached graph...

 

 

Bear in mind my setting is on Auto, but from what is shown in the graph I figured that RE650's transmitted 2.4GHz is coming from the router's 5GHz and 5GHz from 2.4GHz therefore the extender's 2.4GHz faster than 5GHz.

 

Or by ignoring the above graph simply the 5GHz is actually coming from the router's 5GHz and because of the long distance between the two devices therefore 5GHz is slower.

 

So which is correct? can anyone kindly correct me or explain how it actually works?

Update:

 

I've tried the high-speed mode and the first scenario as shown in the graph (5GHz->2.4GHz) was faster than the second scenario (2.4GHz->5GHz). So I guess the only difference in the auto mode is that both scenarios are active and this is how the TP-Link extender works!!!

 

Edit:

 

Relocated RE650 approx 15 meters from the router to measure speed, and the result was 5GHz faster than 2.4GHz worked properly as it should. So my question remains in case of locating it at a long distance, how does it work in auto mode?

 

Looking forward to TP-Link's feedback.
