I'm not able to disable old modes like 802.11a in my WIFI settings:

The wireless clients that support newer modes like 802.11n/ac/ax will work on the new modes instead of 802.11a when using the mixed mode, it will not cause issues usually.

  @QRene if we have old modes of 802.11 enabled the speed for beacon packages are the slowest possible for compatibility with old devices; this means we are wasting the channel sending beacon packages for more time and less for productive communications.

In theory that's correct, however implementing more granular types of modes probably should be requested through a 'feature request'.
