Model: Deco X20
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.3

With cable I'm hitting almost 1gbit down and 500 up, but on wifi I'm only getting a max of 250-300 down and the same in up.

I'm testing this near the main deco.

I saw there are better channels available in the Wi-Fi Interference Test, but it doesn't seem to use those. These channels have no interference and aren't used by anyone else. I can't seem to change it manually.

I'm getting more than 300 Mbps up and down on my standard modem even when I'm far away from it. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of using the deco's.

On the side decos I'm getting 150-200 Mbps up and down and they're very close from each other. But even on the minimum signal of my modem's wifi I'm getting a higher speed, around 200-250.

Kinda defeats the whole purpose of using the deco's.

I'm running my deco's in Access Point mode.

I'm using brand new 3x deco x20

Is there anything I can do to increase my speeds?

You should return these if they don't meet your expectations.

Two things to mention:

1. X20 is the most budget Deco model from X-series (WiFi6). These won't be speed daemons. Mid-range would be X50/55/60 and top of the line is X90/X95. These also won't allow you to change channels, so you should look for different brand of WiFi mesh if you want that feature.

2. With any WiFi mesh, no matter what brand, the speed you are getting from Satellite unit will be less than from Main unit. This is just limitation of technology. For more discussion on that topic google "range extender cuts bandwidth by half" and whatever is said there is applicable to Satellite units in WiFi mesh.

On Satellite Decos you won't be getting speeds faster than on Main Deco. For that reason, if you'd like to troubleshoot slow speeds we should start with Main Deco.

Here is what I would suggest:

1. Install Ookla Speedtest app on your smartphone and use it for speed testing.

2. Ensure smartphone does not have VPN enabled.

3. Turn off 2.4GHz band on Main Network.

4. Power off all Satellite Deco. If there is Ethernet cable plugged to the second port of Main Deco, unplug it.

5. Position device you run speed test on about 6 feet (2 meters) away from Main Deco.

6. Confirm that device is connected to Deco WiFi SSID and check what link speed it reports. How to check the associated/link speed on a wireless client

7. Run speed test two-three times with short interval between tests.

Please share link speed reported by device and best speed test result.

After the speed test you can undo all changes I asked you to make, and power back on Satellite Deco.

Still not as good as one would expect from WiFi6 and gigabit Internet, but perhaps there is a lot of WiFi interference where you live.

What is associated link speed on device you are using for speed testing? You should measure it with device at 6 feet (2 meters) from Main Deco.

Also, if you can enable WiFi on router, connect device to router WiFi, check its associated link speed - that'll help to compare Deco WiFi with your router WiFi.

  @Alexandre.

I found out my phone I was testing with doesn't have wifi 6, hence the lower speeds.

I tested again with my ipad which has wifi 6 and got better speeds.

Although my modem is still outputting better speeds than the decos even from a distance.

I guess it's because the modem uses channels that aren't in use vs the decos that are overlapping other wifi ssids for some reason. The auto feature really doesn't work well.

Test from the modem, 2m away:

830 down, 470 up

Test from the main deco 2m away:

780 down, 380 up

Test from the modem, at my desk:

600 down, 380 up

Test from the deco (satellite), at my desk:

460 down, 250 up

So I'm kinda thinking of returning the decos as my modem is outputting better speeds even from a distance. I thought they were gonna be more powerful and I thought the auto channel feature would've been better, it's pretty sad you can't change it manually.

  @Alexandre.

I'm actually thinking of keeping the modem for now and maybe replacing it with a ubiquiti U6 professional if it's not good enough. I thought the signal wouldn't cover the entire apartment with 1 device, but the modem seems to do it.

Thank you for your help!
