Hi all,

Im trying to setup Port forward so that i can access my ip cameras outside my Lan! Unfortunately they are unreachable when my wifi router is connected via Wan port to my Vdsl modem (Lan port) but work ok when it is connected via Lan port!

Is there a guide that can help me out? Ty M

  @Manolisk Update! I connected the Router (wan port) with my modem (Lan Port) having a static wan ip on my router! I port forwarded 1194 to the wan ip and activated the open vpn server! All traffic the router is forwarded through my vpn server! Safest way!!

  @Manolisk

Here's a video guide on how to configure port-forwarding on a TP-Link router.

Another approach would be to configure the AX73 in AP mode (Case 1) to avoid the double NAT.

If this was helpful click once on the arrow pointing upward. If this solves your issue, click once the star to mark it as a "Recommended Solution".

That's correct - here's the difference between wireless router mode and AP mode.

If you need the VPN Server feature you should use the device in wireless router mode.

Try the port-forwarding approach to configure your device.

If that fails you can try the same guide for AP mode but Case 2 and test if this setup works for you.

  @terziyski When i try the first approach, I noticed that the WAN port gives a LAN internet ip (192.168.1.177)to my tplink router:

Is that supposed to happen;

Yes, that's normal - it's the double NAT that I was talking about.

Now to use your VPN server you should configure DMZ (port-forward all ports) on your VDSL modem to 192.168.1.177.

If you have any other services behind AX73, you should configure port-forwarding on AX73 to the LAN IP address of this device (192.168.42.0/24).

On the other hand the optimal configuration in this scenario (double NAT) is to configure VDSL modem in bridge mode (if it's possible) and AX73 in router mode, thus avoiding double NAT - cheek this story.

  @terziyski Ok one more question! Is it possible to use it as router without using the wan port? Connect it Lan to Lan with the modem and proceed from that? Ive tried that however the device says that it has no internet!

Yes, that's possible in AP mode (Case 2) that's the configuration you're asking for.

If this was helpful click once on the arrow pointing upward. If this solves your issue, click once the star to mark it as a "Recommended Solution".

When configuring according Case 2 pay attention that you actually don't switch to AP mode, but using the device in wireless router mode where this feature is available.

In this case the connection is VDSL modem LAN port => AX73 LAN port. Sometimes this has been called a manual AP mode.
