Problems with Installation

After running the utility to set up the PCI card (Inserted in a PCI E slot) I just get 'Please insert a newtwork adapter'.
I am in 'safe mode with networking'.
Thats as far as I have got in 3 hours of trying to sort it out, looking on the web, then coming to this forum.
It strikes me that there is something fundamental with what I am doing even though I am using the TP utility to install the card.
