Hello,

In the deco app i see the feature "dedicated backhaul 6ghz" on or off. (BE85 3 units setup, 2 wired and 1 wireless)

I only have my iphone 15 pro as 6E device, should I turn this feature on or off?

I've turned it ON now, but i'm not sure if that was the best choice?

Cheers

  @Alexandre. Yes I know how it works and what it does. But do you suggest to turn this on or off?

I only have 1 6E device (iphone 15 pro) so I don't really need the 6GHz for now.

  @Alexandre. If I may ask, why exactly turning this feature off?

To clarify, what options do you have for 6GHz: "Dedicated Backhaul" and "WiFi Network and Backhaul," or something different? A screenshot with settings/options would help.

I see. They changed settings page for BE-series, too.

Actually, if you do not need 6GHz band for clients, keep "Dedicated Backhaul" ON.

The thing is, having 6GHz for just backhaul won't improve link speed for Satellites using Ethernet backhaul. Also, for Satellite on WiFi backhaul it must be in near proximity to Main Deco and without obstacles such as walls to really utilize 6GHz for backhaul. Otherwise, it'll fall to slower but further reaching 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands.

So, it may sound confusing, and it really is, but by keeping  "Dedicated Backhaul" ON you are in reality turning off 6GHz band use in your Deco mesh.

  @Alexandre. Yes I have one wireless BE85, 2 rooms next to the wired one, so i was wondering if turning this on would help the connectivity between those 2 units ;)

  @Frederiek

With smartphone that runs on 6 GHz band (WiFi 6E or WiFi 7) you can run practical test to see if 6 GHz band can be used by Satellite Deco for backhaul.

The test:

1. Configure smartphone to run (connect to) 6GHz band only;

2. Power off wireless BE85;

3. Bring smartphone to wireless BE85 and place smartphone on top of it. Keep wireless BE85 powered off.

Measure quality of WiFi connection between smartphone and rest of Deco mesh. If it reports weak 6 GHz WiFi signal or can't connect on 6 GHz at all - Satellite wireless BE85 will not be able, too. In that case, Satellite BE85 will fall to 2.4 GHz/5 GHz bands for backhaul.
