Unable to upgrade the firmware
I'm unable to upgrade the firmware. I tired the most current version and the previous version as well. Each attempt ends with "Error code: 71211". I'm sure I'm uploading a correct .bin file.
What seems to be odd: My hardware is V1.20 - it is written on the label on the bottom of the ADSL router. But the Web UI says: "Hardware Version:TD-W9960 v1 00000000".
In this thread a similar problem was caused by a "customized firmware". How can I check that my current firmware is standard?

It seems a genuine FW release (comparing the FW release dates). Where did you get that modem - you bought it or it's provided by an ISP ?
If it's provided by an ISP then most probably it's with a customized FW.
If you bought this modem try the following - update to an intermediate FW release first and if successful then update to the latest FW release from here.
If the issue persists make a configuration backup first and then reset the modem to its factory defaults (press reset button for 10 sec) then try again.
If the issue still persists you can restore the configuration from the backup and contact your local support for assistance.

As for the HW v1.20 and HW v1 it is stated that:
(Normally Vx.0=Vx.6/Vx.8 (eg:V1.0=V1.6/V1.8); Vx.x0=Vx.x6/Vx.x8 (eg:V1.20=V1.26/V1.28)

Thank you for your help. The contents of the label:
Model: TD-W9960(EU) Ver_ 1.20
S/N: 21......
MAC: 74-.......
PIN: .....
SSID: TP-Link.....
I'm downloading from EU sites, firmware for TD-W9960, version 1.20, but the modem has rejected everything I tried.
I'm an IT person and have upgraded firmware on various devices many times before, I'm afraid the problem is not so obvious.

@terziyski A reset to factory defaults did help. Finally. Problem solved. Thanks for the assistance.
I guess it was some random issue, not a known problem with a known solution.
For completeness: I bought the modem at an e-shop.
