Hi I have recently purchased the Deco S7 setup.

I use Starlink and I am not able to turn off the WiFi on the router, it's not an option on my gen one router.

I have a few questions with setup, I am going to run it in access point mode to help extend the WiFi as I have wired connections everywhere I need them. I just need to push the WiFi a bit further

I have been reading this: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1794/

I have 3 questions

1. Is access point mode my best option or should I look to remove the Starlink router from the setup and one of the mesh as main and use it as router?

2 . if in access point mode what would be the best setup

 2a -  router(one Ethernet port)> switch > 2 x mesh

2b - router > mesh 1 > switch > mesh 2

2c router > mesh 1 > switch & mesh 2 wired direct to mesh 1

2d router > switch > mesh 1 > mesh 2 wired direct to mesh 1 and not switch

3. if using as access point should I set the WiFi said as the same as my current Starlink ssid or should I run them as 2 separate networks to save conflict?

thank you

Hi, Welcome to the community.

It is also suggested to refer to this link:

How to connect Deco with Starlink

It would be better to remove starlink router from the set up and set Deco into the wireless router mode.

If you wish to keep Starlink router, Access Point mode on Deco would be a better choice.

In AP mode, all 4 diagrams work well. 2a would be more recommended.

For the network switch here, it would be better to have one of the TP-Link unmanaged switch, such as:

Unmanaged switch Models:

8-Port 10G Desktop/Rackmount Switch 【TL-SX1008】: https://www.tp-link.com/business-networking/unmanaged-switch/tl-sx1008/

8-Port 10/100/1000Mbps Desktop Switch 【TL-SG108】: https://www.tp-link.com/business-networking/unmanaged-switch/tl-sg108/

And you will have 2 separate Wi-Fi networks. Setting the same SSID might help reduce the wireless roaming time.

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP

Thank you David. I will try that today.

What would be the best way to wire it if in Wireless Router mode?

2nd Mesh into switch or direct into main mesh?

Thanks again,

John

The best way would be direct into main mesh (into Main Deco).

Wire them that way and you will not have to worry if your switch is compatible with Deco mesh or not.

  @Alexandre.

thank you.

so the back of my main deco looks like this..

1. starlink dish , 2. Secondary deco 3. 18 port switch with all other devices .

I have removed the Starlink router from the setup.

Would you say this is the best setup ?
