Model: Deco XE75 Pro
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.2.11 Build 20240724 Rel. 38913

Recently purchased 2 Pack XE75 PRO and getting some weird (and very disappointing) results with download speeds being markedly lower than upload speeds.

My Set up:

ISP : Voneus Fibre 1000/1000 using Zyxel Router

Main Deco XE75 PRO connected over Ethernet, using Cat 6 cable, to Zyxel Router and in Access Point Mode

Second Deco XE75 PRO situated right next to Main Deco XE75 PRO

Ran network optimisation on Deco's and no issues or interference reported

For Wifi tests Laptop was within 5 feet of Decos

Test Results:

Using Ookla Speedtest to "razorblue" site Manchester UK

All results averaged over 10 tests

OK Tests ....

  • Laptop via Ethernet connection directly to Zyxel Router : 920 Mbps Download / 940 Mbps Upload
  • Laptop via Ethernet connection to Main Deco XE75 Pro : 930 Mbps Download / 931 Mbps Upload

Where it starts to go wrong ....

  • Laptop via Ethernet connection to Second Deco XE75 Pro : 359 Mbps Download / 935 Mbps Upload
  • Laptop via Wifi 6 (not 6E) connection to Main Deco XE75 Pro : 299 Mbps Download / 559 Mbps Upload
  • Laptop via Wifi 6 (not 6E) connection to Second Deco XE75 Pro : 272 Mbps Download / 601 Mbps Upload

It seems that the Wifi Backhaul connection between the Deco's is not performing well (even though they were right next to each other)

Wifi 6 connections should be providing a much better speed than tha Deco's are showing, i've ordered a 6E card for the laptop and will check these tests again.

Help Needed:

What could be causing the marked difference in download speeds when compared to upload speeds?

What could be causing the difference in speed differences between wired and wifi connections to the Decos?

What can I do to improve / fix these issues?

Please help .... can't help feeling i've invested a lot of money into dodgy tech.

You can see from my performance tests below that there does indeed seem to be a slight limitation with the backhaul but was surprised to see that the iPhone 16 Pro (Wi-Fi6E) was much better performing but I put that down to iPhone 16 Pro having the latest Wi-Fi chipset and that was the only device on the 6Ghz band using the 160Mhz channel.  It looks like my Win 11 Laptop (Wi-Fi6) doesn't perform too badly on the primary XE75 but struggles a bit on the satellite XE75 but still getting 500Mbps plus download speed based on recent testing, which I'm pretty happy about.  I guess because Win 11 Laptop is old and not using the latest Wi-Fi chipset and don't forget more Wi-Fi users on 5Ghz band?

Don't forget there is a big overhead when using Wi-Fi and expect to only get 70-80% throughput on connected Tx/Rx rates depending on whether using 80Mhz or 160Mhz channel?  Also, TCP can be an overhead as well as UDP testing is much better?

Note - My satellite XE75 is on a different floor to the primary XE75 and have 40 devices on 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz bands.

Performance results over the last 6 months:

(80MHz channel) - Win11 Laptop Rx/Tx rate 1200Mbps, so max expected throughput 840Mbps

Tool                (Primary XE75 D/U)       (Satellite XE75 D/U)

iPerf3(TCP)    520Mbps/400Mbps        311Mbps/238Mbps         Using Win 11 Laptop

iPerf3(UDP)    948Mbps/600Mbps        920Mbps/669Mbps        Using Win 11 Laptop

Note - Upgraded XE75s and IoT devices using their own SSID.

iPerf3(TCP)    630Mbps/473Mbps                                                30/09/24 Using Win 11 Laptop
iPerf3(TCP)    682Mbps/652Mbps                                                03/10/24 Using Win 11 Laptop
iPerf3(TCP)    643Mbps/591Mbps        561Mbps/472Mbps         23/10/24 Using Win 11 Laptop

(160MHz channel) - Win11 Laptop Rx/Tx rate 2400Mbps, so max expected throughput 1680Mbps

Tool                (Primary XE75 D/U)       (Satellite XE75 D/U)

iPerf3(TCP)    714Mbps/716Mbps        320Mbps/264Mbps          Using Win 11 Laptop

Note - Upgraded XE75s and IoT devices using their own SSID.

iPerf3(TCP)    803Mbps/740Mbps                                                 01/10/24 Using Win 11 Laptop

(160MHz channel) - iPhone 16 pro Rx/Tx rate 2400Mbps, so max expected throughput 1680Mbps

Tool                 (Primary XE75 D/U)       (Satellite XE75 D/U)

iPerf3(TCP)    953Mbps/800Mbps        783Mbps/537Mbps          04/10/24 Using iPhone 16 Pro

Note - 1Gig switch was probably limiting iPhone 16 Pro download speed as have seen approx. 1500Mbps performance figures on this forum for Wi-Fi6E using the 160Mhz channel.

  @paulnet

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.

for the 802.11ax laptop:

  • Laptop via Ethernet connection to Main Deco XE75 Pro:930 Mbps Download / 931 Mbps Upload
  • Laptop via Wifi 6 (not 6E) connection to Main Deco XE75 Pro : 299 Mbps Download / 559 Mbps Upload

  • Laptop via Ethernet connection to Second Deco XE75 Pro : 359 Mbps Download / 935 Mbps Upload
  • Laptop via Wifi 6 (not 6E) connection to Second Deco XE75 Pro : 272 Mbps Download / 601 Mbps Upload

Could you please help me check the wireless link speed on the laptop when it is connected to the main Deco XE75 Pro?

By the way, Did you use the "Dynamic IP" internet connection type for Voneus Fibre?

I'd like to follow up on your case via email later. Please check whether you have received my email address.

Thanks again and best regards.

  @David-TP

Hi David,

The wireless link speed from the laptop is 1201 Mbps(on the main and also on the second Deco)

Yes we have dynamic IP Addresses on Voneus Fibre

I have received your email.

Thanks

Paul.

 @David-TP

Hi David,

For your information.   I have just tried the connection with my laptop with a TPLink Wifi 6E USB Adaptor connected to the main DECO unit.  The link speed is 2401 Mbps and there is no difference to the upload / dowload speeds to the main or second DECO units.

Thanks

Paul.
