[BUG][TEMPORARY SOLUTION FIX] PUSH NOTIFICATIONS
This is for anyone not receiving push notifications for unknown device alerts.
After over a year and a half, I finally found a solution to the “mysterious” disappearance of push notifications for both iOS and Android devices.
Following numerous tests, network resets, and other attempts, I thought of a simple, almost obvious solution:
The strange part is that even if you have notifications enabled on your iOS and Android devices, and they’re all active in the Deco app, it doesn’t actually resolve anything—you’ll only receive notifications inside the Deco app, at the top-right corner in the notifications section. This effectively renders the “New Device Alerts” notification feature useless.
Solution: Uninstall the Deco app from your device, then download it again from the App Store or Google Play. Create a brand new account, allow all notifications for the Deco app, and reconfigure your entire network on this new account. In the “Connection Alerts” section, enable notifications for unknown devices and select push notifications (not email) as the delivery method.
How it works: Every time you try to reconfigure your network on the same account, this functionality suddenly disappears and won’t work again until TP-LINK provides a permanent fix.
Important! ⚠️ If you need to reset your network and reconfigure it, you’ll need to create a new account to restore these notification functions, as they “disappear” from the old account.
Observation: On my previous account, each time I deleted and reinstalled the Deco app to reconfigure the network, the app would show old notifications from months back in the Deco notification section (not as push notifications). This included devices I had previously removed, suggesting that the notification system is cloud-based and perhaps corrupted with residual data linked to the account. So, if you reset the network on an existing account, notifications are gone, and you’ll need a new account to regain these features.
Trust me, I’ve spent a lot of time and energy researching and troubleshooting this issue, which, while seemingly trivial, is incredibly useful. This solution has worked 100% reliably in my testing on both iOS and Android, regardless of the Deco Mesh system in use (I believe the system itself is irrelevant).
Feel free to try this fix if you have the patience.
TP-LINK, thank you for your continued efforts to improve our experience. I’m hopeful that by sharing this workaround for a longstanding issue—one that many users have encountered—this will help in prioritizing a solution. With your expertise, I’m confident that a fix can be found to make this feature as seamless as possible for everyone.
