Not sure their is a "free" option they only list 2 subscriptions available but it does say you can have a 1 month free trial and then just cancel it so thats one way, another way is most ISP providers on their online account login page (via browser) will have a usage stat per month section so you can monitor how much you use even if your on unlimited data. Hope it helps.  

My current ISP does not provide the usage because I am on an unlimited usage plan. When I login to the AX55 and go to home Shield, there is a comparison between basic (free) and pro feature (subscription). The basic feature has a check mark next to usage report. That's why I ask the question.
