Is there anything that I need to do to setup these adaptor to allow tagged vlan traffic. Yes there are post that says this should work, its a layer 2 device so should work but there is another post from last year having the same issue as me.

Basically, when I have the pc connected to a single vlan it works. I have setup a new switch on the output of the adaptor that has 3 vlans and vlan 1 untagged works, other tagged vlans don't. I have checked that is not the new switch setup by connecting with a long patch lead and all vlans then work as expected, reconnect to the adaptor and the connection for the tagged vlans fails again.

I have used the utility to reset, reload the latest firmware and repaired, I can't see any other obvious options other than turning power saving off. I'm I missing something or do these "really" support vlans...

All, to clarify the comment on other pages about vlans being supported on power line adaptors is not correct, at least for some models. My pa7017p adaptors are not working with vlans and the engineer has advised the following...

"Just to confirm, if the packets are VLAN tagged, the adaptors will not be able to pass them through. Ethernet adaptors typically cannot handle tagged packets, as they are not VLAN aware, and as such, tagged packets would not be transmitted.

If you need to pass tagged packets between the switches, it would be necessary to use devices that are capable of understanding and forwarding VLAN tags.

Hope this helps clarify things."

Slightly annoyed as the use of my existing power line adaptors and a new TP-Link switch was to fix TP-Links problem of their deco units not supporting vlans in AP mode... Which is another undocumented "feature". Think I need to start looking at other suppliers kit going forward.

Posted to advise others so hope it helps someone in the future.

 Hi @Paped,

Thank you for your support of TL-PA7017P.

However, if you want to use VLAN function through TL-PA7017P, unfortunately, this device does not have VLAN function. Its main function is to transmit network, which can also be simplified as Ethernet cable.

May I know where did you see that TL-PA7017P has VLAN function? Can you provide a relevant link?

@Joseph-TP the post is on this site and is https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/213812?replyId=468042

In addition as you say it basically a replication of an ethernet connection at layer 2, vlans are layer 2 also so it should work? Otherwise its not actually replicating ethernet functionality over the power line as it should.

Thanks

Paul
