3420 and 4G modem - two tricks which worked for me (may be it works for you)

Earlier when i made this setup, i faced a lot of problems similar to what others are facing - router showing modem unplugged and may be router showing modem identified and then modem dropping frequently.. that was very frustrating.. I read and analyzed few things and below two tricks helped me a lot:
1. use external USB power hub:
2. provide modem dialing parameters manually

some modems and may be especially 4G modems require more power than what the router USB can provide. using external power hub solved many of my difficulties, thanks to below link from where i got this hint:

the hub i used is Belkin 4 port external USB power hub (however it is actually one port USB power hub that was needed for one Huawei modem dongle, but I could not find one good one readily available hence used this 4 port Belkin USB power hub (it is something similar to what is shown below)

now no more modem dropping atall.. :)

2. provide modem dialing parameters manually
fine you would be attracted to select your 3G/4G provider from the list of your country, but if the router is not able to select your provider automatically properly (for me it was all the time wrongly selecting BPL mobile while my 3G account is actually of Vodafone), then you will be selecting it manually from the list and now if the router restarts for any reason (power failure, manual restart, whatever), then MAY BE it will again select a wrong provider by its logic and you will start failing to connect !!! solution : find your modem dialing parameters, it comes when you select your provider from the list, or if your provider is not in the list, then you can find it from your provider (the dialing parameters), and then provide it manually in advanced tab in modem and save it.. now you will be safe even if it restarts as it will take this from what is saved :cool: .. in my case i set below manually for Vodafone India and now no more connection issues even if router restarts as now it takes this from given saved parameters... :
