I can send and receive SMS using my X50-5G but is there a way to make or receive calls on the SIM card in the router?

Hi, welcome to the community.
Deco X50-5G doesn't support the VOLTE feature so I'm afraid it can't be used to make or receive calls.
TL-MR6500v might be a good choice: https://www.tp-link.com/en/home-networking/5g-4g-router/tl-mr6500v/
