Region : Brazil

Model : TL-WR702N

Hardware Version : V1

Firmware Version : 4.18.24 Build 111009 Rel.60162n

ISP : hotel

I have this WR702n which I like to use in hotels, so that I can have WiFi in my room to use with laptop and mobile phone.

For the last months I've come to the same hotel, and found the same problem in different rooms (at least three rooms).

[*]WR702n configured to AP or Router (same symptom in both modes)
[*]I connect the WR702n in to a network socket on the wall, and it gets an IP from the hotel network, and the WiFi network works great.
[*]In the morning, I unplug it from the wall and put it away in my bag.
[*]In the evening I return and plug it in again. And now the WR702n gets a different IP from the hotel network, but no gateway or DNS.
[*]I try over and over again, day after day, even in another room, and it won't work.
[*]I plug my laptop in to the network socket on the wall and it receives an IP and works fine.
[*]Try again with wr702n, and still won't work
[*]I press the switch behind the wr702n and reset it to factory settings, but it still won't work
[*]I give up, and don't use the wr702n during this time. But weeks later I return to the same hotel and the wr702n works great again, but only for one day.
[*]Repeat problem cycle all over again
[*]

When the wr702n doesn't get an IP (or connection, I should say), the connection details are:

IP = 10.10.10.37
[*]SubNet Mask = 255.255.255.0
[*]Gateway = 0.0.0.0
[*]DNS = 0.0.0.0
[*]

What I've tried:
Entering gateway and DNS manually. Doesn't work.
[*]Resetting, changing between AP and Router mode: no joy.
[*]Toggled MAC cloning on/off. No change either.
[*]

Then I plugged the computer in to the network, and Windows 7 got the following settings from the network:
IP 10.20.1.8 (notice it's different IP range from what wr702n is getting)
[*]SubNet mask 255.255.255.0
[*]Gateway: 10.20.1.1 (also in different IP range from what wr702n gets)
[*]

So I took note of these settings, and in the wr702n I changed from DHCP to manual, and entered those settings. And now it works, and so do the devices connected to it. Currently in router mode.

Anyway: why does the computer get a proper IP, gateway etc when plugged in but the wr702n doesn't?

Thanks,

Mickets
