New TL-WA850RE high pitch noise, is it faulty?

Hi,
I received my new TP Link wireless extender the TL-WA850RE today and setup no problem, but it permanently has a high pitch whistle pulsating. Only way to stop this is to turn it off, which of course defeats the purpose of having it. Its driving our dog mad, so is this expected normal operation of the device or is it faulty?
