Computer drops connection in sleep mode (and won't wake it up easily!)

Hello
Last week I installed a new TD-W8951ND Modem-Router. It works fine except that I have one problem:
When I first turn on my computer, or when I "wake it up" from sleep mode, it doesn't connect automatically to the router. I find my WiFi network and try to connect, but I get a message saying it can't connect, until I try this for two or three times.
The old router I had connected automatically to this same computer both when I first turned on the computer and when it came out of sleep mode.
I'm using a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.5
Thanks in advance for your help!
