Slow file transfers through Repeater

I'm getting ridiculously slow (10kbps) file transfer speeds from laptop to NAS when connected via the repeater, but when I move the laptop to the vicinity of the master Sky hub it is much better (2mbps). So I know the NAS is not to blame.
NAS is hardwired to Sky hub.
TP-Link device is set to universal repeater mode. Signal from laptop to repeater is strong - around 84%.
Any ideas why this is so slow?
